Westbridge is an accredited Teaching School based in Wigan, Greater Manchester. The lead schools, Platt Bridge Community School and Westfield Community School have an outstanding track record. Both are new schools, both have maintained and voluntary nursery classes running in a fully integrated way and both have Start Well Family Centres. Both schools and all services on their sites have been judged to be “outstanding” in their relevant Ofsted inspections.
Platt Bridge is a Multi Academy Trust with a Teacher Training Centre (Kinsgsbridge SCITT) within the Trust.
Our aim is to “Bridge the Gap” in:
- the quality and impact of provision for pupils
- the quality of opportunities for staff development
- outcomes for the most disadvantaged and their peers
The Headteachers and staff, along with our strategic partners, look forward to working with you to support you and your colleagues in improving teaching and learning and leadership and management in your school or setting.
Working collaboratively with partners to “bridge the gap” by ensuring that every child and adult has the best opportunities and support possible to ensure their success.
To improve the quality of professional practice to promote high achievement for children and staff in all settings in the Alliance, with a particular focus on settings in challenging circumstances.

The Teaching School works in collaboration with Wigan LA and all schools and settings in Wigan and makes schools in the borough its first priority. We work beyond the borough in all strands in order to capitalise on collaboration with like-minded professionals.

Accountability, Governance & Decision Making
The Teaching School is held to account by a Strategic Board comprising of a representative from each of its Strategic Partners. Strategic Partners are required to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (partnership agreement).
The Executive Management group (EMG) consists of the Headteacher of the two lead schools and 2 Teaching School Lead Teachers. The role of EMG is to translate the vision of the Teaching School into action; supported by the Lead Practitioners for the Big 6 areas, all of whom form the Operational Management Group. (OMG)
