Westbridge Teaching School Alliance

S2SS

We are interested in designing and trialling bespoke packages of tailored support for schools in challenging circumstances; especially those with a wide attainment gap with the aim of supporting the school to reduce the gap between those entitled to Pupil Premium and the rest.

Westbridge Teaching School Alliance recognises that by working together, and sharing our collective learning, we can support system-wide improvements.

We have a wide range of high quality expertise available and we take great care in matching the appropriate support to the needs of the schools and the individuals concerned.

We are able to draw on specialist support from:

  • National Leaders of Education (NLEs)
  • Local Leaders of Education (LLEs)
  • Specialist Leaders of Education (SLEs)

Specialist Leaders of Education (SLEs)

Our Teaching Schools have a number of Specialist Leaders of Education (SLEs) who are available to support schools within their area of expertise. Our SLEs cover a wide range of specialist areas and can be deployed following self-referrals for support. We also work closely with our local consortia to deploy SLEs into schools in need of support. For more information about the support we can offer through deployment of our SLE team or to request support, please click here

School to School Support / DfE School Improvement Offer 2018/19

The school improvement offer is a government programme created to assist struggling schools via extra funding and help from NLEs. To be eligible a school much be one of the following:

  • A primary school defined as ‘below the floor standards’ or ‘coasting’ based on KS2 revised data published in December 2018
  • A secondary school defined as ‘below the floor standards’ or ‘coasting’ based on KS4 revised data published in January 2019
  • A school not subject to ‘below the floor’ or ‘coasting’ (including, but not restricted to, special schools or local authority nurseries) and which are ‘requires improvement’ as judged by Ofsted

If a school is eligible, they will be offered up to 3 days of free advice from a designated National Leader of Education (NLE) or equivalent. If in addition to this, a school is judged as ‘requires improvement’ by Ofsted in their 2 most recent consecutive inspections will be offered up to £16,000 of funded support to address the needs identified by the NLE.

During the 2018 autumn term, DfE will contact local authorities and academy trusts about schools that provisional data suggest are eligible for support. Schools will receive support once their eligibility has been confirmed by the published schools’ performance data. All funded support will be delivered by the end of the 2020 spring term.

The part played by the Teaching School Council in this Offer is to ensure that eligible schools are provided with the best support possible.
